Rapid urbanization in our county continues to put great pressure on natural resources resulting in the disappearance of farmland, open space vistas (like pastureland), and wooded areas. The loss of trees to development, as well as the lack of preservation of green spaces and buffers along some of our beautiful streams in the county, is very concerning. Your financial help as an affiliate can give us a stronger voice in educating Lexington County residents on conservation efforts.

In the fall of 2023 we added the new position of Education Program Assistant. With this new position we hope to implement new classroom and community programs, and future summer activities and workshops. We developed three new programs series to provide Lexington County residents with opportunities to learn more about conservation in a fun and welcoming environment. These programs will also us help educate and encourage Lexington County youth to be more mindful of their impact on the environment.

In 2024 we revitalized our partnership with Lexington Countywide Stormwater Consortium and Lexington Solid Waste Management and since then we’ve helped host 4 rain barrel workshops. We also partnered with Clemson Extension to organize the Lexington Ag+Art Tour and through our efforts the tour had 8 tour sites and 1606 attendees. We’ve also revitalized our efforts with the Green Steps program and assisted Keep the Midlands Beautiful with the 2024 Lake Sweep River Sweep.

Support from our Affiliate members provides funding for our variety of programs such as:

  • Helping county students attend conservation workshops

  • Providing college scholarships related to environmental and conservation majors

  • Celebrating Arbor Day in elementary schools

  • Student photography and poster contests that highlight agriculture, recycling, water quality, and an appreciation for our natural resources

  • Providing Mini grants to support conservation projects and youth environmental education initiatives

If you are concerned about the state of our county’s natural resources, and you share our desire to mitigate the impact we have on our environment so our county can continue to grow and thrive for future generations; please complete and return the enclosed form. Your contribution is tax-deductible, and memberships of more than $50 will receive two admissions to the 2025 Annual Recognition Banquet. Every contribute helps and is greatly appreciated.
